This group from Bergen County, New Jersey, will view the total solar eclipse in the parking lot of Best Western hotel in Watertown where they are staying. Lonny Buinis, left, is an amateur astronomer. His wife, Janice, is at left with their dog Pumpkin. The canine is a three-time, three-legged cancer survivor. Friends Steven and Susan Gold made the trip with them. Steven’s mother grew up in Watertown. Lonny has a catadioptric telescope to view the eclipse. The devices combine lenses and mirrors to bring the image into focus. “It’s a very long focal lens so you get high magnification,” Lonny said. “I have a special filter just like in eclipse glasses so you can look and see the corona of the sun.” Chris Brock/Watertown Daily Times
